HPS DRONE COMPETITIONS

Meetings: Monday, 3:15-4:40
Purpose: HPS-wide Competition - Presented in partnership with FTW Robotics and Rice University, HPS Drone Race is the perfect event offering elementary, middle school and high school students an opportunity to get hands-on experience in STEM education in the form of an affordable, fast-paced game. Students will learn to safely operate a drone, work as a team, and research workforce applications of aerial robotic technology; all while having a blast!
NOTE: This is a selection-based club, students must be invited to join this club.
3D PRINTING DESIGN
Sponsor/Advisor: Wesley Yates
Requirements: 3rd-5th Grade
Fee: $100
Meetings: Monday, 3:15-3:45
Purpose: A variety of processes, equipment, and materials are used in the production of a three-dimensional object via additive manufacturing. 3D printing is also known as additive manufacturing, therefore the numerous available 3D printing process tend to be additive in nature with a few key differences in the technologies and the materials used in this process.
JUNIOR FIRST LEGO LEAGUE

Purpose: FIRST LEGO League Explore (FLLE) (formerly known as FIRST Lego League Jr.) is a non-competitive robotics program designed for children ages six to ten. It is one of the programs established by FIRST.

Purpose: FIRST LEGO League introduces science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) to children ages 4-16* through fun, exciting hands-on learning. Participants gain real-world problem-solving experiences through a guided, global robotics program, helping today’s students and teachers build a better future together.

Geography Bee by National Geographic
Sponsor/Advisor: Kerim Baylyyev
Requirements: 3rd-5th Grade
Fee: $100
Meetings: Thursday, 3:15-3:45
Purpose: The competition begins at the elementary school and middle school levels (4th grade - 8th grade) and usually occurs in November, December, or January. This competition requires at least 6 people to enter. Private schools, public schools, and homeschooled students are allowed to enter. Typically, between five and six million students enter each year (any number of competitors may enter this competition). The two major stages in this competition are called the preliminary and the final stages. Often, the preliminary competition is further split into preliminary rounds and a semi-final. In the event of a tie, a tiebreaker round is held at the end of the preliminary rounds.
Ne-Rd Science Club

Purpose: The goal of Science Club is to get students interested in science at a young age and introduce them to scientific concepts that they may not be fully familiar with in hopes that they can latch onto an idea or subject that they find themselves really passionate about.

VEX Robotics

Purpose: VEX Robotics is a robotics program for elementary through university students, and a subset of Innovation First International. The VEX Robotics competitions and programs are managed by the Robotics Education and Competition Foundation (REC).[1] In April 2018, VEX Robotics Competition was named the largest robotics competition in the world by Guinness World Records

MATH OLYMPIAD
Sponsor/Advisor: Kenya Standokes & Brandi Smith
Requirements: 3rd-5th Grade

Meetings: Thursday, 3:45-4:40
Purpose: Mathematical Olympiads for Elementary and Middle Schools (MOEMS) is a worldwide math competition, organized by a not for profit foundation with the same name. It is held yearly from November through March with one test administered each month. Tests are given at individual schools and results are sent to MOEMS for scoring. Schools, home schools and institutions may participate in the contest. [1] Two dozen other nations also participate in the competition. There are two divisions, Elementary and Middle School. Elementary level problems are for grades 4-6 and Middle School level problems are for grades 7-8, though 4-6 graders may participate in Middle School problems. Hundreds of thousands of students participate annually in MOEMS events.

Purpose: The purpose of the organization is to create a greater sense of responsibility within the student body; to strive for better student/faculty relationship; to promote unification of the student body and better representation of its ideas to the faculty and administration; to promote a positive attitude in the advancement of leadership and loyalty; to promote spirit in the school activities; as well as to uphold traditions and to set standards for generations of Harmony students to come. The objective of Student Council is to provide a service organization doing various activities within the community throughout the year, while developing student leaders. Membership dues are Priority.
NEHS

Purpose: The National Elementary Honor Society (NEHS) was established in 2008 by the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP) in partnership with the National Association of Elementary School Principals (NAESP). NEHS recognizes students in both public and nonpublic elementary schools for their outstanding academic achievement and demonstrated personal responsibility. Through NEHS, students provide meaningful service to the school and community and develop essential leadership skills. NEHS supports these purposes by strengthening the lives of our nation’s elementary students and the schools in which they are enrolled.

Purpose: To make students familiar with astronomical concepts and give students the opportunity to learn more about space. There are two solar eclipses happening in Texas (and one in the DFW area) this school year, on October 14th and April 8th, that would provide unique once-in-a-lifetime learning opportunities and experiences for students. Club members could help organize school-wide viewing events for these occasions.
